h: 28.5” x w: 32.5
oil on canvas
The central female figure was inspired by Henry Fuseli’s drawing ‘A Woman on a Balcony with High Dressed Hair and Hat’ (c.1791). An ornate sleeve and musette [a kind of bagpipe] from Anthony van Dyke’s ‘Francois Langlois as a Savoyard’ (c.1637) symbolize a balcony serenade.
